GRAMMAR - Genetive Case - Plurals
In the Genetive case there are different endings depending on the gender of the noun
- Feminine: He doesn't like women - On nie lubi kobiet
- Masculine: We don't like computers - Nie lubimy komputerów
- Neuter: I don't like towns - Nie lubię miast
Feminine and neuter nouns are shortened while 'ów' is added to masculine nouns. So how would you say:
- We don't have chemists/drug stores -
- He doesn't like banks -
- We don't have questions -
Adjectives are the same for all genders. Our aim is to get the same 'ych' ending as we saw in the Locative case
- We don't like old women - Nie lubimy starych kobiet
- He doesn't like new houses - On nie lubi nowych domów
So how would you say
- He doesn't like clever women -
- We don't like the new products -
- We don't have new computers
- They don't have new questions
And if adjectives end the same that means 'my' and 'your' do as well. And it si also all about the 'ch' sound.
- I'm looking for your sons - Szukam twoich synów
- I don't like my cars - nie lubię moich samochodów
And once again - 'this', 'these' and 'those' are all the same word - 'tych' (the same as for Locative plural nouns)
- She doesn't like those clever women - Ona nie lubi tych mądrych kobiet
- We don't have these old products - Nie mamy tych starych productów
- I don't like these new questions - Nie lubię tych nowych pytań
Heads Up!
Although most masculine plural nouns will end in 'ów' look out for nouns with soft 'z' endings. Here we add 'y' instead.
- I'm looking for good doctors - Szukam dobrych lekarzy
- A cook - Kucharz
- I don't have cooks - Nie mamy kucharzy
- A writer - Pisarz
- We are looking for writers - Szukamy pisarzy
