THE PAST - I was in Warsaw
Like most languages, very commonly used verbs don't follow the normal rules. 'Być' (to be) is one of these.

- I am in Warsaw - Jestem w Warszawie
- I was in Warsaw (male) - Byłem w Warszawie
- I was in Warsaw (female) - Byłam w Warszawie
So how would you say:
- One year ago I was in Warsaw (male) -
- One year ago I was in Warsaw (female) -
- One year ago I was in Kraków (female) -
- One year ago I was in Lublin (female) -

- Wczoraj - Yesterday
So how would you say
- Yesterday I was in Warsaw (male) -
- Yesterday I was in the supermarket (male) -
- Yesterday I was in the old hotel (female) -
- Yesterday I was in the new chemist / drug store (female) -

- (On) Last Friday - W zeszły piątek
- (On) Last Saturday - W zeszłą sobotę
Remember the 'w', when it means 'on' bounces us into the Accusative case - so we have Accusative endings: W zeszłą sobotę
So how would you say:
- Last Friday I was in Warsaw (male) -
- Last Saturday I was in the supermarket (male) -
- Last Friday I was in Lublin (female) -
- Last Friday I had your car (female) -
- Last Saturday I was looking for work in Warsaw (male) -
This last sentence is a good example of multiple case in one sentence:
- W zeszła sobotę - accusative because we are after 'w' being used as 'on'
- szukałem pracy - genetive because something is missing, we were looking for it
- w Warszawie - locative because we are after 'w' being used as 'in'
