THE PAST - I liked, thought, had to

Where the 'I form' does not end in 'm' the rules are not as solid but all we need to do is think about how we can get a 'łem' or 'łam' edning.

Thinking Brain
  • I like coffee - Lubię kawę
  • I liked coffee (male) - Lubiłem kawę
  • I liked coffee (female) - Lubiłam kawę

So how would you say, if you were male:

  • I liked it (male) -
  • I liked Lublin -
  • I liked tennis -

Try the above phrases speaking as a female (using 'łam' endings).

Transfer
  • I think that I have coffee - Myślę, że mam kawę
  • I thought that I had coffee (male) - Myślałem, że małem kawę

So how would you say, if you were male:

  • I thought that I liked coffee (male) -
  • I thought that I had water (male) -
  • I thought that I had a problem (male) -

Try the above phrases speaking as a female (using 'łam' endings).

Right Hand

Do you remember how to say:

  • I must go to town -

In English we say 'I must / I have to' to talk about the present but only 'I had to' to talk about the past. In Polish it's one verb for both - must.

  • I had to go to town (male) - Musiałem iść do miasta

So how would you say, if you were male:

  • I had to go to the supermarket -
  • I had to have a meeting -
  • I had to be good -
  • I had to help -

Now think out the phrases above again but saying them as if you were male.
