This with masculine and neuter nouns

We saw in the last lesson how the endings of 'this' changes for feminine nouns in different cases There are also changes for masculine and neuter nouns but they are easier to remember!

Let's just see a reminder of how 'my' changes in a couple of cases with masculine or neuter nouns.

Genetive: I'm looking for my old laptop - Szukam mojego starego laptopa
Instrumental: I have a problem with my old smartphone - Mam problem z moim starym smartfonem

We'll see exactly the same patterns with 'this'.

Genetive: We don't have this new smartphone - Nie mamy tego nowego smartfona
Instrumental: Do you have a problem with this new computer? - Czy masz problem z tym nowym komputerem?

Unlike feminine nouns 'this' always matches the adjective endings so we just need to remember the adjectives and then try and rhyme 'this' with those endings.

Let's look at each case in more detail.

Accusative 'This'

Remember for masculine nouns in the Accusative we have 'animate' and 'inanimate'. 'This' does not change with 'inanimate' nouns. Here's an example of an 'animate' noun.

Do you like this new smartphone? - Czy lubisz tego tego smartfona?

So how would you say:

We like this old cat -
We want this new laptop -

Genetive 'This'

We don't want this old car - Nie chcemy tego starego samochodu

So how would you say:

We don't want this new scandal -
We don't want this ecological wine -

Instrumental 'This'

Masculine and Neuter Nouns:

He has a problem with this new komputer - On ma problem z tym nowym komputerem

So how would you say:

He has a problem with this old smartfon -
He has a problem with this ecological wine -

When we are talking about something in general (like a situation we are in) which has no particular noun or gender we use the neuter form of this:

I like this - Lubię to

So how would you say:

I don't like this -
I have a problem with this -
