English words ending 'ive'
Another great transfer rule that we can put into use now is English words that end 'ive'

To make the transfer
- Take off the 'ive' to get the stem: Negative -> Negat
- Add 'ywny': Negat -> Negatywny
So how would you say
- Positive -
- Aggressive -
- Intensive -
- Alternative -
- Active -
- Effective -
- Creative -
- Reactive -
- Proactive -

When speaking we don't need to do too much except remembering to switch the endings. However in written Polish we need to think carefully how the letters sound in English. For example:
- Positive - pozytywny
When we think about how we say 'positive' in English we give the 's' a 'z' sound so that's how we should write it in Polish
In English we pronounce the first 'i' more like 'uh'. We know from 'normalny' to get that sound in Polish we use 'y'.
Think about these English pronounciations and how to get them into Polish when you do the exercises below - remembering if it sounds like a 'k' it is a k and we don't need double letters for no reason.

They are all adjectives!
Yes, all these words are adjectives because they are used to descrive something (a noun). That means their endings change, just like any other adjective, depending on the gender of the noun.
So how would you say:
- An intensive taste -
- An alternative question -
- A creative woman -
- It is a positive report -
- It is positive music -
- She is positive -
- She is a positive woman -
- Is she a positive woman? -
- He is a proactive doctor -
Remember those last two. By saying what a person is (a woman) we need to use the Instrumental Case endings.

We've had może być and moge być. Just like in English, we can also say:
- I like to be positive (male speaking) - Lubię być pozytywny
- I like to be positive (female speaking) - Lubię być pozytywna
So how would you say:
- He likes to be aggressive -
- She likes to be active -
- Do you like to be creative? (talking to a male) -
- She likes to be a negative woman -
