GRAMMAR - Nominative and Accusative Plurals - Masculine and Neuter

The endings for masculine and neuter plural nouns in the Nominative and Accusative cases are more consistant than feminine nouns

Thinking Brain

For male nouns we simply add 'y'

  • A house - dom
  • Houses - domy
  • A cat - Kot
  • Cats - Koty

Remember adjectives are always the neuter form when we use plurals in the Nominative and Accusative cases. So how would you say:

  • Where are the cats? -
  • Do you have cats? -
  • Where are the buses? -
  • I have bicycles -
  • Why do you have bicycles? -
Transfer

For neuter nouns we change the 'o' to an 'a'

  • A town - Miasto
  • Towns - Miasta
  • Wine - Wino
  • Wines - Wina

So how would you say:

  • They have towns -
  • Do they have towns -
  • Why do they have towns -
Transfer

Remember adjectives, my, your, this, etc. is always neuter when we are using plurals.

  • We like these houses - Lubimy te domy
  • Do you like my wines? - Czy lubisz moje wina?

So how would you say:

  • We have fantastic towns -
  • They have old wines -
  • Do they have old wines? -
  • I have clever cats -
  • Do you have clever cats? -
Right Hand

Heads Up!

There are, as always, exceptions to the rules. For example you might think 'hotels' would be 'hotely' .... but it is actually 'hotele'.

As said before, start with the rules, which will get you communicating, and learn the exceptions as 'fine tuning' later.
