Mam laptopa
Officially 'animate' only applies to living things (kot, brat, etc.) but informal Polish increasingly treats other things as 'animate'
These are mainly digital related nouns like
- Laptop - Mam laptopa
- Smartfon - Mam smartfona
It is also often applied to the virtual world
- Facebook - Mam Facebooka
- Whatsapp - Mam Whatsappa
If you want to sound like a local then treat these digital things as animate.
If you are preparing for an exam only treat living things as masculine
In this course we'll use Polish as it is spoken in the real world - treating certain non-living things as 'animate' but remember the difference if you are preparing for an exam.
