lp101 cat Good to Know
Lubię brata

In the last chat Sara said 'Lubię brata' which literally means 'I like brother'.

But how do we know whose brother as she does not say 'my'?

There is a Polish word for 'my' which we'll cover later but in Polish conversation the default situation is 'my' or 'your' depending on the context.

When Sara said 'Lubię brata' because she has not specified that it is your brother/his brother/her brother/their brother/etc then it goes to the default 'my brother'.

Similarly if we ask someone 'Czy lubisz brata?' we mean 'Do you like your brother?'
