Knowing of

So we have two different ways to say we know something in Polish.

• Wiem - for facts and where/why/when/how/what
• Znam - For people, places and things

An easier way to remember this is to think 'Do I know everything about this?'

So for 'Gdzie jest autobus?' you know everything (or you don't) -> 'Wiem, gdzie jest autobus'

But if it was a place like a town - do you know everything about it?

That would be impossible.

So we say:

• Znam miasto - I know of the town
• Znam to miasto - I know of this town
