Female job roles

Most job roles in the Polish language have two ways of being said, depending if we are talking about a female or a male.

This is similar to the way we say 'actor' or 'actress' in English depending on the gender of the person.

• Menedżer - a male manager
• Menedżerka - a female manager

• Programista - a male programmer
• Programistka - a female programmer

• Konsultant - a male consultant
• Konsultantka - a female consultant

It's all about ending the job title with 'ka'

There is some disagreement in Polish society about whether or not this is a good thing as gender should not be important in a job role.

However many people, including the younger generation, still use the different forms.

In practice expect to hear a female manager (for example) refer to herself as both:

• Menedżer
• Menedżerka

But you will never hear a male manager refer to himself as 'Menedżerka'
