Now we know a lot of different endings for nouns one common area of confusion is 'a' endings:

'Kota' ends in 'a' so does this mean it is feminine and we should be using 'ta' instead of 'ten'?

When we say 'nouns ending in a are feminine' we mean this only when the noun is in the Nominative case

This is how the noun is written if you looked it up in a dictionary or on an app like Google Translate.

So when deciding the gender of the noun it is all about how the noun ends in the Nominative case - how it is in the dictionary.
