Nouns

Many English speakers have a poor understanding of grammar but knowing grammatical terms is essential for learning Polish.

We'll do this in bite sized chunks

First up are 'nouns'. These are labels we give to 'things'. For example:

• kawa
• autobus
• supermarket
• etc.

It is important to remember that 'things' can have more than one 'noun'.

• car
• motor
• automobile
• banger
• etc.

These are all nouns for the same thing - a car

The purpose of nouns is to help us communicate faster. I say 'autobus' and you have a picture in your mind of a 'bus'.

Your picture might be different from mind but both our pictures will be a large vehicle with passenger seating.

Let's first get familiar with Polish nouns.
