So for words for things (nouns) that end in 'a' - kawa, herbata, pizza, zupa, etc. - we know that if they come after a verb being used positively the 'a' ending changes to 'ę'

This situation is known as the Accusative Case - the case of being after a verb that is used positively

Genetive

When we use a verb negatively this is known as the Genetive case:

In this case the 'a' ending changes to 'y'.
